Olive Windbiel George, age 92, passed to eternal life on May 17, 2017 in Scottsdale, Arizona. An Indiana girl born and raised in Evansville, she graduated from Saint Mary's College in South Bend, Indiana in 1946 as a chemistry major. She married her Notre Dame sweetheart, John (Ben) George and moved to Beloit, Wisconsin in 1947 where Ben joined the family business, George Brothers, Fine Clothing for Men and Boys. Olive was devoted to her family and always involved in school and church activities. Her brownies made a mark at bake sales and her recipe remains an all-time family favorite. She and Ben were members of the Beloit Country Club and Olive was a contender in the local ladies' golf tournaments in Beloit; she won her flight at the Wisconsin Women's Amateur State Golf tournament in 1960. Olive and Ben moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1976 and later to Phoenix, Arizona in 2004. She volunteered her time with the Christ Child Society of Phoenix working with the baby layette sewing group and participating in Christ Child Society activities. Olive welcomed new adventures and enjoyed taking road trips. She had a thrilling ride in a red convertible on her 90th birthday courtesy of her son-in-law John Rupp.
Olive is predeceased by her parents Joe and Olive Windbiel and her sisters Catherine Windbiel and Rose Marie Windbiel Porter. Her husband, Ben, died in October 2015. Olive is survived by four children, Ann Jahr (Ralph) of Roseville, California, John George (Lori) of Livermore, California, Willy George (Lynne) of Alamo, California, and Mary Rupp (John), of Phoenix, Arizona. Her six grandchildren, affectionately dubbed the smatchets, were a source of pride and joy: Jocelyn and Garrett Rupp, Michael Jahr (Wei Wang), Christopher Jahr (Emily), Jonathan Jahr (Jessica), and Elizabeth George (Brent Newhouse). Olive welcomed with love the arrival of her six great-grandchildren: Liam, Eva, Ariel, Carson, Eleanor and Paul. She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on August 14 at 10 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix at 2:30 pm that afternoon. The family wishes to thank Leanna Lupea and the staff at Golden Heritage Assisted Living in Scottsdale for their caring concern for Olive. In lieu of flowers, to honor Olive, the family requests a donation to a charity of your choice or to Christ Child Society of Phoenix http://www.christchildsocietyphoenix.org. Arrangements are under the care of Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary in Phoenix, Arizona. http://resthavencarrtenney.com
